At-home glamor was the big star at the 78th Golden Globe awards which saw nominees watching from home or hotel rooms, many of them all dressed up in their finest. Couture watches were on the agenda with two nominees wearing two of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s most famous timepieces. Amanda Seyfried who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in Mank wore a 101 Feuille in pink gold, a precious model that combines the watch and jewelry-making expertise of the Manufacture. Meanwhile Nicholas Hoult, a longtime friend of the house, who was nominated for the Golden Globe for best television actor in a musical/comedy for his role in The Great opted for the Reverso Classic Large Duoface Small Seconds.

These are among the great watches of the house. The 101 Feuille was originally conceived and developed for jewelry watches and was introduced in 1929. The Calibre 101 revolutionized watchmaking as its tiny size and baguette shape offered new possibilities and an aesthetic freedom to designers. At 14mm long, less than 5mm wide and weighing barely one gram, the tiny, hand-wound calibre remains the smallest mechanical movement in the world to this day. The 101 calibres are rare timepieces that have been worn by exceptional women including Queen Elizabeth II who wore one- a gift from the French president Albert LeBrun when she was a princess— for her coronation in 1953.

The 101 Feuille in pink gold is adorned with 167 pavé diamonds (10.3 carats), nestled against one another and arranged by hand at the Manufacture’s workshops. On the silvered opaline dial one finds two discreet Baton hands. « The Jaeger-LeCoultre jewelry watch is effortless because it pairs well with everything and adds a refined and glamorous touch to my whole ensemble, » said Amanda Seyfried.

In 1931, Jaeger-LeCoultre would launch a timepiece that would become a classic of 20th century design and the world of watchmaking: the Reverso, 90 years young this year. It was created to withstand the rigors of polo matches with its sleek, Art Deco lines and unique reversible case. The watch over the past nine decades has housed more than 50 different calibre’s and its blank metal flip side is a canvas for creativity decorated with enamel, engravings or gemstones, « My favorite design is the Reverso Duoface. It can evolve from a daytime watch into an elegant evening timepiece. Perfect for tonight! » commented Nicholas Hoult before the awards ceremony.
