Moments in Time: Longines Turns Back Time to a Vintage Time

Longines takes us back to the carefree spirit and wild parties of the 1940s when the post-war period ushered in a time of prosperity and celebration. Elegance was back with men wearing suits and women the recently introduced nylon stocking. The Longines Heritage Classic Tuxedo creations, inspired by historic pieces from this time, offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of the late 1940s. During the 1940s and 1950s the Longines Symphonette was a renowned classical orchestra and music program that enjoyed a large audience over the air waves of American and Canadian radio stations every night. The Longines Symphonette collection is the house’s delicate, refined collection for ladies. Slender and elegant in intriguing oval cases their straps are characterized by a great flexibility.

The timepiece is available in two versions: a 3-hand model and a chronograph model. The 3-hand model showcases a typical and very popular design from the 1940s with an opaline silver disc surrounded by an eye-catching matt black circle with thin baton hands covered with Super-LumiNova. The small seconds counter located at 6 o’clock is intriguingly off-center. Meanwhile the chronograph version displays matt black, opaline and midnight blue, a refined and elegant trio of colors. There are several features on the dial including a tachymetric scale which is quite rare for a Longines watch.It was collectors who nicknamed these watches Tuxedo with their contrast of black and white on the dial.

The The Longines Symphonette collection is available in two sizes, small and medium and is sometimes set with 56 diamonds.Three dials are available ranging from the silver-colored in the « flinqué” style with Roman numerals, mother-of-pearl with diamond indexes and white mother-of-pearl finely inlaid with Arabic numerals. The watch is outfitted with a rice grain style strap with diamond-shaped links and is either entirely made of stainless steel or two-toned with the stainless steel pieces alternating with the pieces capped in 18-carat rose gold.
