It is a seductive champagne from the good earth of the finest regions in Champagne. It is organic and comes directly from the hand of man. The house of Champagne de Sousa has brought out an exceptional champagne, Les Caudalies, made with 100% Chardonnay grapes cultivated organically in the Côte des Blancs region of Champagne country. For Les Caudalies, the de Sousa family selected the grapes from vine plants that were over 60 years old. This fragrant, dry champagne – aged in oak casks – was made from wine from the current year and reserve wines from the vintage years starting in 1995 in equal measure.

Erick de Sousa, the third generation of the family to run and manage the house, arrived at the helm of the company in 1986. Established in Avize, the de Sousa vineyard covers some of the finest terroirs of the Chardonnay Grand Crus grape growing regions including Avize, Oger and Cramant but also the great Pinot Noir lands of Ay and Ambonnay. The house’s champagnes have been certified organic for the past decade. Part of the vineyard is cultivated by horse-drawn plough and the fourth generation of the de Sousa family is on hand to take up the reins.
