Paris, France — As the fashion world gears up for the Paris Fashion week, one place to head straight to is the Musée Maillol where a bold and often gold retrospective exhibition is paying tribute to one of the fashion greats of all time, Gianni Versace. The retrospective is a journey into his colourful at times extravagant but always unique and simply well-cut world. The exhibition is like one big runway show in the heart of Paris. It was here in Paris that Versace would present twice a year his highly awaited Atelier show at the Ritz, where else?

The Gianni Versace Retrospective brings together 450 exceptional pieces, ranging from his designs to accessories, drawings, decorative objects, photographs, videos and interviews reflecting the various influences on his art of creating clothing. The show reveals the myriad inspiration the designer —who was born in sun-drenched Reggio Calabria in 1946— drew on including his beginnings in Calabria where he grew up watching  his mother, who was a dressmaker, working on designs in her shop. Catholic religious themes, Greek mythology, opera, ballet, the Baroque and Pop Art all influenced him. The house’s emblem was a Medusa.  Versace designed unabashed opulence and flamboyance throughout the 1980s and 1990s. His later works were characterized by a well-stated though still colorful refinement. Versace was shot and killed on the front steps of his Miami Beach, Florida home  on July 15, 1997. His fabulous legacy lives on. The exhibition is a Dreamrealizer production; it is not linked to, nor associated with the company Gianni Versace S.r.l. or the Versace family.
