Wine of the Week: Pouilly-Fuissé from the Orfèvres du Vin

The Orfèvres du Vin (which literally means the goldsmiths of wine) have just brought out an exciting and golden colored Pouilly-Fuissé from the cooperative’s old growth vineyards. The Pouilly-Fuissés are exceptional wines from the region of Mâcon and this wine, made with hand-picked grapes, is a superb blend of flavors that bring to mind honey and pear and caramel. Rich, harmonious and fresh this is great wine for a great meal starring a chicken from the prestigious Bresse region in a cream sauce or an emblematic rich veal stew. The wine is produced by the collective Orfèvres du Vin, originally called Charnay-lès-Mâcon, created in 1929 and which brings together some 70 members who strive to create the finest in white wines in the hilly Mâconnais, a delightful region nestled between Burgundy to the north and the Beaujolais to its south. Named for the town of Mâcon, it is known for producing good value, excellent white wines made mainly from the chardonnay grape and pinot blanc varieties.
