It was a very good year. It was more than a very good year, for 2013 was an exceptional year for champagne(s). The hot, dry and sun-filled summer began in mid-April. Champagne, the land, had never seen so much sun, 800 hours of sunshine. The grapes developed into energy-filled powerhouse grapes and then the light rains came at the beginning of September, giving the grape bunches even more volume, accurately maturing them to perfection. This was the year of the house of Taittinger’s Comtes de Champagne Grands Crus Blanc de Blancs 2013.

This is an exceptional champagne made only with Chardonnays emanating from the villages of the prestigious Côte des Blancs region: Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger. Here the chalky surfaces of the good earth are thousands of years old conferring on the surface area a natural reservoir of water and heat, the ideal conditions for white grapes to thrive. This gives to us powerfully aromatic aromas.

For 10 long years this Comtes de Champagne Grands Crus Blanc de Blancs 2013 has been aged to perfection. It is precise, dense, flavorful and quite simply exceptional. The champagne has also been brought out in a Jeroboam which holds four bottles or 24 glasses of champagne and a Mathusalem which holds 8 bottles or 48 glasses. Bottles that further amplify the taste. ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette. https://www.taittinger.com/en
