Paris, France — This is far more than a happening. This is a crystal clear great event brimming with the finest champagne in the land of France. The great Champagne Tasting once again brings together no less than 60 champagne makers for the bi-annual Champagne Tasting organized by the French magazine and news website Terre de Vins and attended by in-the-know well-heeled Parisians. The ambiance is sparklingly chic, the tasting glasses of the finest quality and the ambiance quietly festive. The Champagne Tasting returns to the French capital for the sixth time and this year is being held for the very first time in the splendid Palais Brongniart, a landmark building that officially opened in 1826 and housed the stock exchange until 1998.

The big houses are all there but so are the niche family-owned estates that are rarely found in one place. This year master classes are on the agenda along with workshops and a blind tasting organized by the major houses. Maisons Henriot, Moët & Chandon, Ruinart, Veuve Clicquot and Lombard are each putting on one of the five master classes while the Syndicat Général des Vignerons de la Champagne -The Union of Winegrowers of Champagne,  is hosting two champagne discoveries offering a journey into the wilder side of Champagne country and champagne and the pink champagnes. May 13th from 11am until 7pm. Last tickets at 6:15pm. ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette.
