Paris, France — It is an ode to spirituality and the philosophy of life inherent to Buddhism, values that became important to the contemporary artist Invader during his journeys to Nepal and Bhutan. On July 5th, the Parisian auction house of Artcurial will be offering key pieces of Urban Art in its Urban & Pop Contemporary Art sale. A star of the auction is the Rubik Dalai Lama by Invader estimated at 300,000 to 400,000 euros (some US$357,000 to 476,000 ). The Rubik Dalai Lama is composed of 225 Rubik’s Cubes. It was in 2004 that Invader’s work evolved into a new direction with the birth of his Rubikcubism, a fusion of Rubik’s Cubes with the 20th century artistic movement Cubism. These works of art were created solely in the medium of the Rubik’s Cube, that magical 3D puzzle that has become one of the best selling puzzles and best selling toys in the world. The auction will be held on July 5th at 2pm and the public can view the works from July 2nd to July 4th.
