Paris, France — He was a man of exceptional taste and style, Kenzo Takada. And collectors acquired some of that exceptional taste and style at an auction conducted by the house of Artcurial on-line and off last May 11th while the fashion auction was conducted on-line only from May 3rd until May 12th and featured unseen creations from the personal collection of Kenzo Takada. All of the lots were sold for a total of US$3million, five times the estimate.

The May 11th auction saw some 600 pieces from the apartment of Kenzo, the legendary creator and fashion icon, go up for sale. The works of art, furnishings and objects were all assembled in his Left Bank apartment, objects with which he surrounded himself during his lifetime and which reflect a certain harmony between East and West. Artcurial exhibited these incredibly elegant and refined pieces in a special show that was held at the auction house until May 10th. The Online Only auction of clothing from the designer’s personal collection featured some 150 colorful pieces emanating from the designer’s personal collection and offers a glimpse into his creative process. The collection includes kimonos, boleros, coats, dresses and shirts. The auctions are organized in conjunction with the auction house of Christie’s.

« The Kenzo Collection beautifully reflects the eye of this ingenious creator who was also a decorator taken with civilizations that know how, just like his creations, to perfectly bring together different cultures which he did in his Parisian apartment where he lived for the last 15 years of his life. This auction will offer an opportunity to pay a last tribute to this artist of myriad talents, » commented Stéphane Aubert, the auctioneer and associate director at Artcurial.
