Paris, France — As the autumn of the arts gets underway in Paris, with notably Art Basel Paris, an intriguing exhibition is underway in one of the French capital’s palatial hotels. The five-star palace Shangri-La Paris is hosting the works of the contemporary Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota, who is represented by the galerie Templon. An exceptional selection of the artist’s major works are on display in the hotel’s Rotunda, notably Inside Memory, State of Being and Strange Home. Chiharu Shiota is known for her monumental installations of intertwined threads and wool yarn while she explores the universal themes of memory, time, identity and the invisible links that bring people together.

These works are juxtaposed with the unique heritage of the Shangri-La which is in what was once the home of Prince Roland Bonaparte, the great nephew of Napoleon I and president of the French National Geographic Society in the early 20th century. The hotel’s indoor pool for instance is located in what were originally the stables of the Prince. The building which has been meticulously restored, is a listed historic monument in addition to having splendid views onto the Eiffel Tower and the Seine. It offers a harmonious blend of French grandeur and Asian hospitality. The exhibition is on until October 27th, 2026. ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette 10 avenue d’Iéna, 75116 Paris, France.
