What better back drop for time than a star-filled night. Precisely Vincent van Gogh’s celebrated oil-on-canvas, The Starry Night, possibly his most famous painting, one that seemingly glows from within. The Swiss watchmaking house of Krayon has just re-interpreted The Starry Night in a one-of-a-kind masterpiece: Anywhere, which has been created in collaboration with Jean Todt of motor racing fame. The watch was specifically crafted for Mr. Todt, the motorsport legend, and was fashioned from a single block of platinum, which like The Starry Night emits an inner glow.

Rare and precious, platinum holds a particular allure with its silvery whiteness and vibrant luminosity, which aptly complements shades of blue. Krayon uses only 950 platinum, an alloy that consists of 950 parts per thousand of the prized metal – which is exclusively sourced and produced in Switzerland.

The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh is a masterpiece of Dutch post-impressionism, evoking a timeless magic that transcends the confines of reality. Krayon has put its mastery of technique, craftsmanship and material into the fashioning of this extraordinary timepiece. And the house has crafted this watch as a celestial ballet of colors. Each tiny dab of paint on the dial, each component of the mechanism, has been orchestrated with the precision of a master jeweler.

This watch goes beyond measuring time, it is a work of art in which miniature painting was used to reinterpret van Gogh’s iconic masterpiece. To create the dial a multitude of tiny recesses were carved into the metal plate. Into these, a Swiss enamelist carefully deposits dabs of each color, in the form of lacquer, by hand – layer by layer – until the desired shades emerge, achieving an incredibly delicate effect. Meanwhile Rémi Maillat, the watchmaking engineer-designer and founder of Krayon, has created a masterful movement for the Anywhere watch revealing the duration of daylight and marks the sunrise and sunset times for any location personally selected by the wearer. And Jean Todt has been just about everywhere. The timepiece is equipped with the manually wound C030 caliber, a movement meticulously designed, developed, and fully assembled in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, by Mr. Maillat.
