Paris, France — Marble. A material that has fascinated since Antiquity. Marble, re-crystalliized rocks from the depths of the Earth. Marble is formed when limestone or dolomite rocks composed of calcium magnesium carbonate re-crystallize under the influence of intense heat, pressure, and chemical changes involving aqueous solutions in a process called metamorphism, imparting on the marble its distinctive crystalline structure. There is the snow-white Carrara marble of Italy used by Michelangelo and a favorite with modern sculptors. There is Parian marble from Paros and the Pentelic marble of Attica which the Greek sculptors of Antiquity carved into their temples (notably the Acropolis) and statues. There are myriad marbles the world over from the diverse marbles of Bangalore in India, to the wilds of Vermont in the United States and beyond. The versatile and beautiful qualities of marble have resulted in its capacity to endure and so today it remains popular in modern interiors as well as exteriors.

French interior architects and designers Bruno Moinard and Claire Bétaille have created a beautiful collection of marble decorative patterns for the Italian house of Bisazza within its Marmo and Marmosaico lines. Entitled Reminiscence, the collection is expressed in four motifs — Cadence, Cosmos, Accord and Echo — offering a contemporary and poetic reinterpretation of marble mosaic that combines architectural rigor, decorative vibration and exceptional craftsmanship. Bisazza is a world leader in the production of glass mosaic for interior and exterior decoration. The Reminiscence Collection can be discovered in the Bisazza Showroom in Paris at 26 rue Madame, 75006 Paris. ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette
