Paris, France — Just when you thought you had seen all of those blacks on black, mainly on canvas, the black on white paper comes along. A unique exhibition at the Musée du Luxembourg is devoted to Pierre Soulages whose Parisian home and studio were located nearby in the neighboring 5th arrondissement of Paris. The works on paper by Pierre Soulages, which was long kept by the artist, has been shown less often than the works on canvas, and has rarely been brought together in separate exhibitions. This exhibition, entitled Soulages Another Light, the Work on Paper, features 130 works, more than thirty of which have never been shown before underscoring his use of walnut stain, ink or gouache on paper.

Soulages died on October 25th, 2022 at the age of 102. His complete body of work includes more than 1,700 paintings on canvas. 800 paintings on paper, more than 100 engravings, three bronzes, tapestries and ceramics and notably the contemporary stained glass windows of the Saint Faith Abbey Church of Conques in 1994. The exhibition was produced by the GrandPalaisRmn and received exceptional support from the musée Soulages in Rodez which opened in 2014 in strict collaboration with the artist. The Paris exhibition is on until January 11th. Musée du Luxembourg 19 rue Vaugirard 75006 Paris, France. https://museeduluxembourg.fr/en
