With the internationally renowned  Cannes Yachting Festival on the approach, we thought the time was right to extend summer up here in the northern hemisphere with the latest collection of Ocean Date Moon Phase timepieces from the house of Harry Winston. Following in the dazzling wake of the 42mm full-set (that means with diamonds) Ocean Anniversary Editions, this new set of small high jewlery pieces with a 36mm dial is loaded with a cargo of diamonds. The petite dial is ideal for women or for men with slimmer wrists. These two new versions enjoy mother-of-pearl dials splashed with some 25 carats of diamonds placed by the expert hands of Harry Winston’s gem setters. This luxury sports timepiece from the Ocean Collection, whose name alone evokes nautical adventures and the sea, is resilient and glamorous at the same time.

The asymmetrical 36mm case is water-resistant to 50 meters and sparkles with 121 baguette-cut diamonds set seamlessly into the bezel, lugs, crown, and case flanks. Meanwhile the 140 baguette-cut diamonds on the dial are cut to different sizes and calibrated to extremely close tolerances, concealing any trace of the supporting structure. Considered the most difficult and elaborate of all stone setting techniques, the invisibly-set diamonds form a smooth surface in a diagonal pattern across the dial. And above this sea of diamonds sit the date and moon phases. The moon phase complication is a universal favorite and here the handmade 18-karat yellow gold cabochon moon glides through a star-studded night sky while the interior of the time and moon phase counters is set with a delicate flurry of 113 snow-set brilliant-cut diamonds. And to complete this luxurious ensemble, the links of the articulated gold bracelet and folding buckle are set with an additional 656 baguette-cut diamonds. Given the impressive level of gem-setting, the high jewelry Ocean Date Moon Phase is a limited edition of 10 pieces in rose gold and 10 pieces in white gold.

Precious mother-of-pearl, an organic material found inside some seashells has its own magical iridescence. Used for the dials of these new Ocean Collection timepieces, the dials have been declined in blue and green versions, as well. The green version is adorned with diamonds and emeralds while the blue mother-of-pearl dial is adorned with diamonds and sapphires. The blue dial is a nod to the treasured history of the House of Harry Winston whose flagship store is located on Fifth Avenue in New York City.  Mr. Winston, known as the “King of Diamonds,” acquired the rare 45.52 carat blue Hope Diamond in 1949. These colourful versions of the Ocean Moon Phase Automatic have been brought out in limited editions of 25 pieces each. Both models are paired with alligator leather straps matching the dial color and an 18-karat gold ardillon buckle set with 24 baguette-cut diamonds. ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette https://www.harrywinston.com/en
