Sky gazers will enjoy both a micromoon and a pink moon at the same time tonight, April 12th, 2025. The micromoon refers to a full moon that rises when the celestial body is the farthest from Earth, which according to the NASA is about a 251,000-mile distance. Space enthusiasts may notice the full moon appearing up to 14% smaller and 30 percent dimmer than a supermoon, according to the space agency. The micromoon will be at its most illuminated at 8:22 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) on Saturday, though it will be visible throughout the night. The pink moon refers to the first full moon of spring, but unfortunately for pink lovers, it doesn’t mean the moon will actually be pink but should take on a golden yellow hue. So with the pink moon rising we take a look at the house of Swatch who has teamed up with Omega — whose Speedmaster watch was famously the first on the moon and continues to be known as the Moonwatch — to bring out the new Bioceramic Moonswatch Mission to the Pink Moonphase timepiece to celebrate the pink micromoon of April.

The eye-catching very pink watch, a chronograph with a moon phase indicator, is outfitted with a 42mm-case, crown and pushers in pink bioceramic as well as a pink strap in Velcro. It features a gleaming black and silver-pink opaline dial which carries the Omega and Swatch logos while its hour markers and black hands are coated with pink Grade a Super-LuniNova with a pink emission to glow in the dark. And in moon-like fashion, two pink moons rest against a black moon phase disc, which rotates in the subdial set at 2 o’clock. Under UV light, a secret detail appears on the moon phase mask. The Mission to the Pink Moonphase timepiece is available for a limited time at certain select Swatch sales locations.

The pink moon phenomenon earned its name from the bloom of the creeping phlox flowers that occurs in early spring, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. The plant is a wildflower native to eastern North America: Phlox subulata, commonly known as creeping phlox or moss phlox. This flower, often called “moss pink,” was in full bloom around April’s full Moon. ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette
