A Gourmet Gazette Fine Find: Anticipating the Angels’ Share
Paris, France — The expectations are high but the outcome is bound to outstanding. The French luxury perfume house of Kilian Paris is getting ready to bring out a new perfume, a perfume that is to be its highest ever in concentration. Think heady here. Angels’s Share Paradis swims in on raspberry balanced with the best of the best, rose oil from Bulgaria, where the rose harvest is so important that it is protected by the Bulgarian army.

The founder of the house of Kilian Paris, Kilan Hennessy, has drawn his inspiration from his family’s heritage, a heritage rooted in Cognac, the town and cognac, the brandy as his last name implies, Angels’ Share evokes his olfactive childhood memories. My grandfather spoke of the mysterious evaporation of brandies during the ageing period in their old casks, the angel’s stare. » And effectively this angel’s share goes « to the angels ». If you walk around the town of Cognac in the month of March, this indescribable, yet highly agreeable fragrance of the angel’s share permeates the parts of the town where the precious brandy that is Cognac is ageing.

This exceptional elixir, Angels’ Share Paradis, was conceived by Kilian Hennessy in collaboration with the perfumer Benoist Lapouza. It is akin to alchemy with cognac oil, Tonka bean, cinnamon and oak infused with a bewitching raspberry liquor (remember those delicious raspberry sours from your college years). Rich notes of Bulgarian rose and cinnamon bark oil play into the scheme of things while a woody and gourmet background filters in with the oil of white santal and the absolute of Tonka bean. And there’s more.

Angels’ Share Paradis is a celebration not only of timeless family heritage and a unique savoir- faire. Its ultimately luxurious bottle is topped off with a craft crown made in natural oak wood, bringing to mind Cognac memories. And in keeping in the spirit of the house’s Liquors collection its design evokes a crystal whiskey glass. And for the sustainable that should be in all of us, its is completely rechargeable.
