This is the gift for enthusiasts of the Impressionist art movement at its best: an exceptional engraving of Edouard Manet’s Le Dejeuner sur l’Herbe, by Jacques Villon (real name Gaston Duchamp, brother of Marcel) is available for purchase through several boutiques of the Rmn-Grand Palais network of boutiques. And it has been brought out in a limited edition of just 20 numbered prints. The original painting at the Musée d’Orsay is a major work in the history of art, marked both by its subject and by Manet’s style, notably in its treatment of color, nature and light. The Villon engraving is a highly complex print, in four color plates, superimposed by successive passes through the press, which required over two months of research and features some thirty colors. As part of its ongoing research into color, the Atelier de Chalcographie of the Louvre has developed a mastery of its craft, revealing the subtlety of the hues and the rendering of the paint, in order to get as close as possible to the original work. The year 2024 began the commemorations for the 150th anniversary of the first exhibition of the Impressionists. The Atelier de Chalcographie is a historic collection of copperplate engravings that was founded in 1797. The Rmn-Grand Palais, Rmn is the French acronym for the Réunion des musées nationaux, distributes its own products and those brought out by others in a network of 34 bookshop-boutiques that it manages in French museums as well as on its on-line boutique. The Le déjeuner sur l’herbe engraving is available at the boutique du musée d’Orsay at the boutique du musée du Louvre, at the boutique du musée d’Orsay, sur boutique.louvre.fr et sur boutiquesdemusees.fr
