The fun-filled, sometimes gonzo paintings by the American artist Kenny Scharf have made their way to the French Riviera and are currently on display at the Villa Navarra upon the invitation of Doriano Navarra. A contemporary of Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, his works have been shown all over the world and have found their way into prestigious collections including those of the Guggenheim and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He made the cheerful and colourful works on display at the villa specifically for the exhibition. The painter and iconic street artist has created a wonderful world of works and the show was inaugurated during the Cannes Film Festival last May 22nd. The artist had donated a work to the amfAR Gala and Auction, which funds research into AIDS, held during the Cannes film festival last May 23rd. The show of 26 works on paper at the Villa Navarra is on until June 28th by appointment only. Our personal favorite was the portrait of Wilma Flintstone, the iconic pre-historic cartoon character.
