Champagne alone is enough of a reason to visit champagne country. But when the likes of a leading house like Gosset also show a work of art on their grounds, it offers another call to champagne duty. Each year Champagne country welcomes an outdoor art festival called Vign’Art. Vign being a contraction of the word vignoble which means vineyard in French. The 17 art works are displayed in the vineyards in the region and this year the venerable house of Gosset, founded in 1584 and the oldest house in Champagne, is welcoming an installation sculpture entitled Remuage. Remuage is the process of turning or shaking the bottles to let the yeast lees move to the neck of the bottle for removal in sparkling wines, particularly champagne. The fiber sculpture by two artists, Fiona Paterson who is Franco-British and Jill Gibson who is British is a series of « remuage » tables artfully displayed on Gosset’s property in Epernay

The delightful Gosset champagnes are exported to 60 countries around the world and can be found in fine restaurants, luxury grocery boutiques or at the Maison Gosset in Epernay and on-line. Historically based in the village of Aÿ, the house acquired the Maison Gosset in Epernay in 2009 with its beautiful grounds, 19th century cellars, a winter garden and a champagne bar for tastings, visits and receptions. The house has brought out, among others, Grand Rosé, Grand Blanc de Blancs, the Grand Millésime 2015 but its superb signature champagne Gosset Grand Réserve remains the classic cuvée. Exhibition until September 17th. Special to The Gourmet Gazette. https://www.champagne-gosset.com/en/
