An abundance of diamonds, bold and colorful Roman numerals, a signature mother-of-pearl dial and charismatic colors all come together in Blancpain’s new set of Ladybird watches. Lemon sorbet yellow, raspberry pink, apple green, midnight blue and white white all come into play on the interchangeable alligator straps. It’s a rainbow and halo of colors shining over the Ladybird Colors collection. The key here is the dial with a small-seconds sundial asymmetrically positioned in its lower half juxtaposed with the larger-sized hour markers in its upper half. This is a dial that required exceptional expertise to fashion. Made from rare, pure, radiant and superior-quality mother-of-pearl, the dial becomes iridescent offering unique depth and contrast framed by the 70 diamonds adorning the watch. Colors come into play as well on the eye-catching Roman numerals.

And those rainbow-colored 12-hour markers, too, required not only craftsmanship but patience as well for each of the shades has to be printed five times to give them that great depth. This rich palette is further enhanced by a set of five alligator-leather straps. Each strap is equipped with a hidden quick-change system and either a pin buckle or folding clasp, depending on the wearer’s choice. The self-winding timepiece is housed in an 18-carat white-gold case measuring 34.9 mm and set with 59 diamonds around the dial, representing a total of 2 carats in this part alone. The Ladybird Colors is powered by the in-house 1163 automatic movement and is water resistant to some 100 feet (30 meters).

The Ladybird collection reflects the pioneering role Blancpain has played in the history of feminine watches. The history of Blancpain ladies’ watches is inextricably bound up with the determination of Betty Fiechter, who became the first woman to head a watch Maison at the beginning of the 1930s. Her intelligence and visionary spirit paved the way for the brand’s jewelry watches and forged its international renown. ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette. https://www.blancpain.com/en
