Paris, France — From funky bears to spindly snakes, a golden winged pig, a quizzical owl, this is a fun-filled, feel-good fairytale-like exhibition that is clearly a show stealer which is no simple feat on the Parisian art scene. The show’s dreamy title is The Unicorn, the Star and the Moon and it revolves around the works on paper and in ceramics of the artist duo  Florentine and Alexandre Lamarche-Ovize. It is being held in one of the most beautiful and unique museums in Paris: Le Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature (The Museum of the Hunt and Nature). The exhibition is an invitation into an immersive installation of drawings, engravings, ceramics, lights and the animated in which peacocks, owls, deer, bears, dragon flies, a cat and more evolve in a freewheeling way.

Florentine and Alexandre Lamarche-Ovize (born respectively in 1978 and 1980) have worked together since 2006 and live and create in the Parisian suburb of Bobigny. They intentionally blur the line between art and craft with their universe extending out to sketchbooks, wall paper, frescoes and sculptures and ceramic objects. All are filled with themes, colors and myriad materials offering a unique body of work, completely free from any constraints.

Le Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature (The Museum of the Hunt and Nature) was founded by François  and Jacqueline Sommer in 1967 in the picturesque Marais neighborhood of Paris. Today housed in two adjoining mansions, dating respectively from the 17th and 18th centuries, the museum’s permanent collection includes art works, ceramics, arms, trophies, objects and naturalised animals related to the hunt and nature. Animals are widely represented in the collections enabling visitors in the heart of Paris to understand animals in their environment and the relationship between mankind and animal kind.  The Unicorn exhibition is on until March 9th. And the museum is worth a visit in and of itself. Conferences, films, workshops for children and adults alike are all on the agenda. ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette
