Emeralds continue to enchant. These green precious stones were mined in Egypt as early as 330 B.C. They are formed when chromium, vanadium, and iron are present in the mineral beryl which in turn, depending on the presence of each element in the beryl, gives the stone its various green colors. Long considered to be sacred stones, they symbolise fertility, immortality and facilitate predicting the future, according to various elements of lore. They have given their name to a color, too, emerald green. And one of the most mythical and enigmatic cities in film and literature: The Emerald City of the fictional land of Oz in L. Frank Baum’s Oz books, a city built all in green glass, jewels and emeralds. While emeralds and emerald jewelry might be out of reach, these emerald green offerings in zircon and natural semi-precious stones from the Parisian house of Nouvel Amour might be a welcome alternative. Nouvel Amour specializes in complete customization and all of the house’s materials are ethically sourced.
