Moments in Time: Zenith’s Lapis Lazuli Time

Lapis lazuli brings to mind a stunning shade of deep blue. It is both a mineral and a gemstone and it has been fashioned into a unique dial by the house of Zenith for the latest version of the house’s Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar timepiece. The brand’s founder Georges Favre-Jacot named his house for the zenith, the highest point a star can reach in the sky, a name to embody excellence in watchmaking as well. Horlogy is regarded as an off-shoot of astronomy as time is measured through the movements of celestial bodies. The Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar timepiece displays the hours, date, day of the week, month and moon phases.

This new model features a dial crafted from lapis lazuli, evoking a starry night sky with its deep blue hue scattered with shimmering, gold-colored pyrite inclusions. Naturally occurring, these mineral flecks ensure that no two dials—and therefore no two watches—are ever exactly alike. A true Zenith classic, the complete calendar chronograph was reintroduced in 2024 as the Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar.

Nestled in a 38mm case, the timepiece houses the celebrated El Primero 3610 calibre, Zenith’s iconic high-frequency chronograph. The sapphire display case back reveals the intricate architecture of the movement including a striking blue column wheel and an open-worked rotor bearing the Zenith five- pointed star. The Chronomaster Original Triple Calendar Lapis Lazuli comes with a blue calfskin leather strap secured by a stainless-steel folding clasp and is also delivered with a matching steel bracelet with a folding class. Zenith was founded in Le Locle, Switzerland in 1865 and is celebrating its 160th anniversary this year. ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette
