Lyons, France — it is in a way, a way of going back to one’s roots. Lyons is renowned the world over for its gastronomy, witness the international hospitality fair that drew to a close there last week. But it is also renowned for its silk and would become the Silk Capital of the World by the 18th and 19th centuries and today remains a center for fine silk production. A Lyoneese art gallery is playing a role in this industry, too, bringing out limited edition scarves made in silk in Lyons. The galerie Françoise Besson — which is also celebrating its 20th anniversary — is editing scarves representing the works of the artists that the gallery represents. The scarves made in the Lyon metropolitan area are made from 100% Lyons silk twill. The gallery represents contemporary and emerging artist from around the world. The first scarves edited by Françoise Besson represent works from an artist of the Galerie Christine Crozat and specially selected works by the artist Florence Demangeon. The galerie Françoise Besson plans to launch a new sil scarf each month depicting a work of one of its artists. Special to The Gourmet Gazette
