Paris, France — One of our favorite characters is back in town just in time for the re-opening of Notre-Dame and he is taking in the town in the most cat-like of fashions, from roof top to roof top where he even takes a most cat-like nap. He goes on a fishing trip replete with net and his unfathomable smile. He takes you to some of the more iconic stops in Paris, but to a few other places as well. The contemporary Franco-Swiss artist M. Chat, an accomplished street and pop artist, left his cat portraits throughout the city where some of them remain to this day proffering a joyful and creative character that is ever so endearing. The Parisian Galerie Brugier-Rigail is paying its annual tribute to M. Chat, the artist also known as Thoma Vuille, in an exhibition entitled M.Chat: Vandal Origins running until January 17th. Our joyful cat is there with his Cheshire-cat like smile. You can almost hear him purring. And that contagious smile is found all over the world today in the urban landscapes of New York, Hong Kong, Dakar, Seoul and beyond. The works on display are mainly acrylic on canvas or on paper, signed and unique pieces. ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette
