Paris, France —She left behind a body of work that was larger than life. Abstract artist, fashion designer, graphic artist, and an uncanny entrepreneur, she embraced myriad art forms through works that transcended the canvas. Her couture clients included the American actress Gloria Swanson and the British writer, activist and heiress Nancy Cunard. Hers are colorful works, works that hover on the border between art and decorative arts. It all comes down to color, colors that interact. It was called Simultaneism, a form of abstract art revolving around the interaction of colors, a concept the Ukrainian-born French artist elaborated with her husband the painter Robert Delaunay in the 1910s.

The rue de Seine is one of the French capital’s most artistic and authentic in many ways. Lined with art galleries, original boutiques and cosy restaurants and cafés, it is the perfect spot to celebrate the artist and two of the street’s institutions are doing just that during the autumn of the arts in Paris. The Galerie Roger-Viollet and the Galerie Zlotowski are collaborating to present the exhibition Sonia Delaunay, the Simultaneous. They are presenting a selection of the artist’s original works as well as photographs of the artist as well as those evocative of her many worlds. The two galleries are presenting some 40 of the artist’s works on paper as well as photographs from the enormous collection of the house of Roger-Viollet showcasing the artist as well as the people and places she frequented.
