It’s time to take the blue path. And not just any blue path. The house of Bucherer Fine Jewellery has just brought out its Blue Path collection marrying recycled 18 carat yellow gold with rare indicolite gemstones in a rich shade of indigo blue. The collection comprises stud earrings, a pendant necklace, a ring and necklace all bedecked with emerald-cut sparkling indicolites. The centerpiece of the collection is the simple necklace with its indicolite stone of 16.29 carats underscoring the luminosity and the depth of the stone.

Indicolites or indigolites are vitreous blue tourmalines that are found in Brazil, Namibia, Siberia, Madagascar and the United States among other places. Tourmalines emerge in a wide variety of attractive colours: tourmaline actually has one of the widest color ranges of any gem stone. Indicolite is of a dark violetish blue or a greenish blue. Tourmaline color is often determined by minerals, for the indicolites and other blue tourmalines, it is iron and possibly titanium that induces its blue and green colors. A lilac blue version of indicolite known as siberite was first found in Russia. Blue stones of the tourmaline family are known for their soothing qualities.

For its Blue Path collection, Bucherer Fine Jewellery has also put into place digital and physical tracking systems. All of the indicolites have undergone a « paternity test », enabling information concerning their origins to be introduced into the stones through nano particles containing fragments of their artificial DNA. And for each indicolite, a digital twin has been created on the blockchain of the Provenance Proof company presenting the steps in the supply chain. The buyer has an overview and thorough information on the fabrication of the purchased jewel. The digital twin also serves as a certificate. The Blue Path collection is currently available in select Bucherer boutiques. ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette
