Paris, France — French swimmer Léon Marchand has already powered his way to three Olympic gold medals at the Paris Games and meanwhile, the house of Omega, the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932, captured his times for those races for eternity. The house is behind a host of innovations in timekeeping technologies for swimming and diving competitions, including their famous touchpad, introduced in 1967 and which allows the swimmer at both ends of the pool to literally stop the clock upon touching the touchpad. They are regarded as the most precise way to measure timing in swimming and were first introduced into the Olympics at the 1968 Games in Mexico City. But the golds for Léon Marchand were very special for the Swiss watchmaking house for the French swimmer is one of the brand’s ambassadors as is another swimming great Michael Phelps.
