A new exhibition is being played out at the Almine Rech gallery timed to coincide with the Monaco Grand Prix Formula 1 automobile race on May 26th, possibly Formula 1’s most glamorous venue. The show, fittingly entitled, Victory Lap, features the iconic and spectacular works of race car drivers by Michael Kagan whose works depict humans pushing the limits of nature through physical stamina and technology. The Brooklyn-based American artist produces oil paintings with large, expressive brush strokes. Astronauts, mountaineers and here race car drivers all figure in his works. He donated his work Schumacher II to the amfAR gala, a fundraiser for the organisation of the same name that was founded by, among others, Elizabeth Taylor, to support AIDS research. It was held at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc on Cap d’Antibes on May 23rd, 2024.

Almine Rech opened its new gallery in the Principality of Monaco on May 2nd in the prestigious Carré d’Or district at 20 avenue de la Costa featuring intergenerational artworks from the estates and artists represented by the gallery, including Günther Förg, Turi Simeti, Tom Wesselmann, Minjung Kim, Dr. Esther Mahlangu, Kenny Scharf, Francesco Vezzoli, Gregor Hildebrandt, Carlos Jacanamijoy, Fabien Adèle, Alexandre Lenoir, Ryan Schneider and Thu-Van Tran. The new space in Monaco marks the 11th international location for Almine Rech, whose global gallery network extends to Paris, Brussels, London, New York, Shanghai and Gstaad, in addition to institutional collaborations in Venice.
