Paris, France—Live music, cocktails, dinner concerts any one, in Paris? It’s all there at one of the great Parisian jazz venues, the Jazz Club Etoile in the Meridien Hotel at Porte Maillot. The program for the month of March is a rich one, perfect for spending those blustery March Parisian nights under the cover of this comfortable club, a club replete with a clubby atmosphere but open to all. Below we explore some highlights but do have a look at the full program on the venue’s website.

On March 7th at 8:30pm the Costel Nitescu Trio is on board and on the violin Costel himself, regarded as one of the greatest gypsy jazz violinists performing today. The performance is recommended by the French musician Thomas Dutronc. Next up is Principles of Joy on March 9th at 8:30pm proffering a journey into the heart of Soul and Funk. Another highlight is being played out on March 28th at 8:30 pm when the Divas du Jazz perform the great classics like Misty and You Must Believe in Spring. Accompanied by exceptional musicians, it is a night to re-live the heyday of American jazz and the concert is being held in partnership with Jazz Magazine.

It was Air France that opened the Le Méridien in 1972 to offer its flight crews a comfortable and homey pied à terre in Paris and upon its inauguration the Méridien Etoile became, in the golden and glamorous age of travel, one of the great European hotels. Flight crews walking purposefully and elegantly through the lobby still add that touch of glamor to the place. Here historic events have taken place from the concerts of BB King, Dizzy Gillespie and Oscar Peterson in the hotel’s Patio Jazz Club to bicentenary celebrations for the French Revolution to the Socialist International Meeting with François Mitterrand and Willy Brandt participating in the debates. Political, economic and artistic events continue in this iconic and highly comfortable venue five decades later. ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette.
