Paris, France – It is an intriguing world that unfolds in a stunning  19th century mansion in the Plaine Monceau district bordering the highly scenic Parc Monceau straddling the 8th and 17th arrondissements of Paris. Jean-Jacques Henner was a talented and sought-after painter of socialites in Belle Epoque Paris and was particularly known for his predilection for painting redheads. Today the museum-mansion houses an art museum devoted to his works replete with a delightful winter garden and a glimpse into the lifestyle of 19th century Paris. The Musée national Jean-Jacques Henner also offers a rich program of cultural events, houses three of the artist’s studios and showcases temporary exhibitions.

The current show is dedicated to one of the great figures of the 19th century Louis Pasteur. The exhibition, entitled, A Friendship Story, Louis Pasteur & Jean-Jacques Henner, underscores the ongoing friendship between the great scientist and the accomplished painter. The Pasteur Museum which is housed in the Pasteur Institute has loaned portraits of the Pasteur family by Jean-Jacques Henner while the Institute is undergoing a complete restoration. The exhibition is complemented by the rich archives found in the Jean-Jacques Henner museum including the painter’s notes and letters from Louis Pasteur, alongside photographs, a sculpture, archives, paintings and drawings on loan from the Musée Pasteur.

The exhibition is running through March 3rd but the museum, nestled into a beautiful neighborhood, is worth a visit in and of itself. The entrance ticket to the museum is coupled with an entrance into the Gustave Moreau museum (Moreau is considered to be one of the great masters of the Symbolist movement) as well. ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette. https://musee-henner.fr/en. 43 Av. de Villiers, 75017 Paris, France.
