Geneva, Switzerland — Undulating swirls in greens and blues of gold, diamonds, parchment, sycamore, leather and elytron (beetle shell) all come together on the dial of Piaget’s magnetic Undulata Altiplano timepiece. This meticulous piece with a dozen layers of these precious materials was patiently assembled by hand around the off-center hours-minutes counter and the ultra-thin flying tourbillon carriage. It should come as no surprise that this watch was awarded the Grande Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève’s 2023 in the Métiers d’Art (Artistic Crafts Category) category. This exceptional piece was made by French artist Rose Faneuil who created a miniature marquetry of volumes, textures and colors.

The timepiece is outfitted with a signature manufacture movement,
the calibre 670P, surrounded by brilliant-cut diamonds, while the bezel is set with baguette-cut diamonds. For this limited edition of 8 pieces, Rose Saneuil has carefully cut each element before applying them one at a time on the dial. This diligent operation requires precision and patience, as these infinitely thin materials must perfectly fit. It took her over 44 hours to create this intricate dial, a true signature of Piaget’s incredible know-how. The watch is part of Piaget’s Metaphoria collection of high jewelry and high watchmaking creations. These 52 exceptional pieces, crafted from start to finish in the Maison’s ateliers – 41 jewels and 11 watches –were made with remarkable artistry, to mirror and highlight this masterful play of textures and colors. ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette. https://www.piaget.com/ww-en
