Paris, France — Colorful paintings, fantastical sculptures, assemblies of objects and video installations are among the intriguing and inviting creations being showcased in the aptly named Révélations show of the Fondation Emerige (Emerige Foundation) being held this year for the tenth time and which was curated by Gaël Charbau. Twelve finalists from the French art scene were selected from over 1,000 applications. This year’s show entitled Hit Again was held once again in a splendid locale, a converted garage offering plenty of spaces and high walls for the works. And was, well, a hit.

The group show offered a panorama of young artists working in myriad mediums. There are the good old summertime photographs of Ismaïl Bazri, Juliet Casella’s collages and the fantastical mythological creatures invented by Frederik Exner. His eye-catching, thought-provoking pieces are executed as sculptures or wall sculptures and offer an intriguing journey into metamorphosis, a mainstay of artistic creation.

The 10th Révélations Emerige grant was awarded to Johanna Mirabel who lives and works between Paris and the seaside town of La Rochelle. Her intriguing paintings feature women merely existing in rooms that are executed in great detail. The works offer an insight into a just living attitude which is soothing and harmonious. The winner of the Emerige Foundation Grant receives professional support, a workshop for one year at La Ruche, a celebrated Parisian space for young artists, and a grant of 15,000 euros to create their first solo show. Created in 2014 by Laurent Dumas, chairman of the supervisory board of the Emerige group, the Emerige Revelations Grant is designated for visual artists regardless of their medium but who are under 35-years old, French or working in France and who are not represented by a professional gallery.

« In 2014, we launched the Emerige Revelations Grant with the aim of supporting young artists on the French scene making their talent (re)known and encouraging the broadest possible outreach, » commented Laurent Dumas, « Today we are delighted to celebrate the 10th year of this pioneering program which has seen the birth of a whole generation of revelations:10 prizewinners, 10 partner galleries and over one hundred artists whose work has been presented to professionals and contemporary art lovers alike. » ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette.
