Paris, France — It is one of the historic hearts of Paris, filled with distinguished manor houses, mainstream and offbeat museums, art galleries and cultural institutions. The Marais, practically in the center of town, brings its cultural history to life from September 1st until the 3rd when art and culture become even more dynamic there as the 9th Les Traversées du Marais festival kicks off. Literally meaning, traversing the Marais, some 27 museums, art centers, foundations, libraries and institutions are opening up their doors, free of charge, to the public. The festival is organized by the network Marais Culture +.

Highlights this year include a harp recital with music by 18th century composers at the Musée Cognacq-Jay, Jewish street food, workshops and encounters with chefs at the mahJ, the museum devoted to Jewish art and culture and an outdoor film projection at the Swedish Institute. And there will be a carnaval at the Musée des arts et métiers. This year’s festive festival is being coordinated by the Maison Victor Hugo and the home of the French writer and politician is located in the Marais on the Place des Vosges. Concerts, performances, poetry readings and a host of other activities are all on the agenda. Entrances and activities are free, some require a reservation. ©The Gourmet Gazette.
