Paris, France -It was all about looking forward and looking back. The Valeriya Couture Collection Fall Winter 2023/2024 for Haute Couture Week in Paris was fittingly entitled Futur Antérieur, the future perfect, the verb tense which expresses something that will have happened in the future. The runway show strolled down the aisle of the lofty American Cathedral in Paris last July 3rd to a full house. There are silhouettes from the great royal courts of yore replete with capes both long and short, sweeping trains and trousers divided for riding. All very courtly but executed with resolute modernity. There were plenty of exciting tweeds, herringbone and lace and high-heeled Mary Jane pumps. All crowned off with a crown on a detail, the house’s emblem. This is highly wearable couture at its best.  The house uses only all natural fabrics: wool, cotton and silk and the house has even invented a new patented weaving technique.  She also didn’t want to pierce the weaving on the superb fabrics used in the collection and so all the buttons are old bronze snap buttons in a nod to the past.
