Versailles, France — Some of the great places to shop in and around Paris for highly original objects are the museum boutiques of the Rmn-Grand Palais which has brought out a host of collections, including a line of pearl jewelry composed of bangle earrings, a bracelet and necklace entitled The Queen’s Pearls. These are jewels fit for a queen for they were inspired by the pearls worn by Queen Marie Antoinette.

In the 18th century pearls were used for long strands of pears, in bracelets of one or several strands, earrings and even brooches often accompanied by precious gemstones. They could also be seen adorning the elaborate hairstyles and headdresses found at court.

The Rmn-Grand Palais, Rmn is the French acronym for the Réunion des musées nationaux, distributes its own products and those brought out by others in a network of 34 bookshop-boutiques that it manages in French museums as well as on its on-line boutique. These Marie-Antoinette inspired pearls are available at the boutique at Versailles and on the Internet at boutiquesdemusees.fr ©Trish Valicenti for The Gourmet Gazette.
